Influence of local ascorbic acid concentration on collagenous tissue healing in the cornea.
نویسنده
چکیده
IT is now accepted that the repair of collagenous tissue depends on an adequate intake of ascorbic acid (Hojer, 1924; Wolbach and Howe, 1926). Bourne (1942a) has fully reviewed the experimental work. The relation of local ascorbic acid concentration to collagenous tissue healing, however, has not been so fully investigated. Some disagreement is apparent when the effect of the addition of ascorbic acid to connective tissue cultures is compared with that of local application of ascorbic acid to healing wounds. Table I summarizes the results recorded in the literature of the local application of ascorbic acid.

It is accepted that the repair of connective tissue is defective in scurvy. Wounds of the cornea, however, may be superficial, involving only the epithelium, or they may be deep and invade the collagenous substantia propria. Moreover, the power of proliferation of the epidermis is not impaired in scurvy (Wolbach & Howe, 1926); in keeping with this finding, Galloway, Garry & Hitchin (1948-9) fou...
متن کاملEvaluation of the effect of jasmonic acid and ascorbic acid on some morphophysiological traits of safflower genotypes Under deficit irrigation regimes
In order to evaluate the effect of deficit irrigation treatment and foliar application of ascorbic acid and jasmonic acid on morphophysiological traits of safflower genotypes (Carthamus tinctorius L.), the experiment was set out in a split plot factorial in a randomized complete block design with three replications at Shahrekord University Agricultural Research Station during the two years, i.e...
متن کاملDetermination of L- Ascorbic Acid in Plasma by Voltammetric Method
Voltammetric techniques have been considered as important methods among the analytical techniques used for the identification and determination of trace concentrations of many biological molecules such as L-ascorbic acid (AA). L-ascorbic acid is an electro-active molecule, though it is difficult to determine its value directly with a majority of electrodes made of carbon and transition metals, ...

متن کاملThe identification of uric acid as the major reducing agent on the corneal surface
Aim: To identify the compound accountable for the high reducing power lining the surface of the corneal epithelium. Materials and methods: Chinoy’s histochemical method was used to demonstrate the occurrence of a high reducing agent on the corneal surface. Ascorbic and uric acid concentration in the tear and cornea were determined by highpressure liquid chromatography using a μ-Bondapak-NH 2 co...
